My Reaction to the Micah Parsons Blockbuster Deal

A historic move has been made in Dallas. Jerry Jones is putting on his best ‘old Al Davis’ performance and he screwed things up real bad, real fast. Thursday afternoon, the Cowboys traded Micah Parsons after an offseason-long contract dispute, in return for DT Kenny Clark and 2 first round picks.
This transaction reminds all of us of the Herschel Walker trade way back involving the Vikings and Cowboys, it’s a generational deal. The Packers who are historically not known for making big splash trades like this one, are clearly emphasizing to the rest of the league that they were just one star away from Super Bowl contention. Dare I say, they were 100% right?
Micah Parsons will become the heartbeat of an already solid defense, and while the roster is young, there is a ton of talent on both sides of the ball. Matt LaFleur and Brian Gutekunst are putting their nuts on the table, and you have to respect it.
Clearly Jerry Jones has had enough, but I have to admit this is a better scenario for the organization then if they had signed Parsons to the deal he wanted. Did we really think the Cowboys were going to compete in 2025, even with Micah? There’s a good chSchottenheimerd’ve still finished last in their own division with or without him. At least, it’s best you get some assets for a player you were going to have to break the bank on, reset this year, and ramp up operations in 2026. Although, I will critique the fact that Dallas probably could have gotten a little bit more back for the star pass-rusher.
The Dallas Cowboys have been digging themselves a hole since the Ezekiel Elliott contract. Star after star, they’re forking out too much money at the wrong time. Instead of signing these significant players ahead of the market, Jerry Jones new definition of “gambling” is waiting until the last minute, but by that time the price per player only has risen.
This trade may have shocked me more if it happened 2-3 weeks ago, but a lot of trade rumors were swirling and time was ticking. A week from now, we will be watching the Cowboys first game of the 2025 season on NBC and Brian Schottenheimer needs to know if he has his star player or not, so things were starting to get mysterious. Especially after hundreds of photos of Parsons not in uniform and asleep mid-preseason game spread on the internet.
It seemed like it was just yesterday that this Cowboys future looked so promising. One Dak and one CeeDee contract later, the Cowboys are strapped for cash and out out options. Not even Jerry’s oil money could save him this time. The Cowboys are lost in a black hole organizationally and they’re watching teams in their own division, like the Eagles, master navigation of the salary cap and win Super Bowls.
I would like to say i’m praying for Cowboys fans right now, but the truth of the matter is that Cowboys fans aren’t deserving of any prayers. They’ve had their shining moment as America’s team and who knows if they’ll ever reach that pinnacle again.
